STRATEGIC PLAN 2026-2030

Throughout late 2025 and early 2026, econext gathered input from members and partners to develop a new strategic plan. The goal? Help econext differentiate the organization, create value for members and partners, and help achieve organizational sustainability into the future.

MISSION, VISION, VALUES & PILLARS


Our Mission:
To accelerate economic growth in Newfoundland and Labrador that is environmentally sustainable.

Our Vision:
Long-Term Vision (2050): A net-zero Newfoundland and Labrador that is economically prosperous and environmentally sustainable.

Practical Vision (2030): econext will be a province-wide catalyst for the green economy, strengthening members and partners’ abilities to deliver economic impact.

Pillars anchor our decisions, initiatives, and resource allocation. In order to deliver our mission and achieve our vision, we must focus on our strengths. Our pillars are true to us, and they help set us apart from other organizations. econext’s pillars are:

Member opportunities and public policy & advocacy are part of our core identity as an industry association. In recent years, our considerable focus on developing and delivering special projects has allowed us to build resources and expertise in capacity building and innovation.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES


Strategic
priorities will help us turn our strategy into results. Priorities are the specific, actionable, short-term tasks that directly support our pillars, and help ensure focused execution and resource allocation.

#1: Opportunity Development

Goal: Enable and attract opportunities at the intersection of economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Key Activities: 

  • Support B2B networking and matchmaking to encourage growth and collaboration in our business ecosystem
  • Assess and communicate the potential of clean technologies and environmental services in NL
  • Drive scale-up and export opportunities for members
  • Support members and partners in attracting new opportunities and investments to NL
  • Develop a plan for broadening reach and support across the province

#2: Public Policy Development

Goal: Provide advice regarding legislation and regulations so they strike a balance between encouraging growth and protecting the environment.

Key Activities:

  • Maintain econext’s reputation as a trusted advisor
  • Engage with members regarding public policy challenges and opportunities
  • Develop a clear strategy and areas of focus for advocacy
  • Build strong relationships with governments to enable collaboration
  • Communicate with members regarding the advocacy work taking place

#3: Communication, Engagement & Reporting

Goal: Ensure members and key partners are well informed regarding econext’s efforts and outcomes.

Key Activities:

  • Create a measurement and reporting framework that focuses on outcomes 
  • Develop a clear communication and engagement strategy 
  • Share research, forecasts and trends with members and stakeholders
  • Share regular updates with members regarding relevant activities and initiatives

#4: Organizational Sustainability 

Goal: Develop our organization in a way that is more financially and operationally sustainable.

Key Activities:

  • Align resources with the strategic pillars and areas of focus
  • Explore diversified revenue streams
  • Develop consistent budgeting and project management tools and processes
  • Build leadership and management capacity within the organization
  • Provide professional development opportunities for all staff
  • Undertake board governance initiatives, including governance training and bylaw review

#5: Program Development

Goal: Develop programs that are closely aligned with members and key stakeholders’ needs.

Key Activities:

  • Adopt a project selection process that aligns with members and partners’ needs
  • Strengthen programs under capacity building and innovation pillars by grouping projects that share similar goals, target audiences, and/or deliverables
  • Establish clear project-level reporting practices to ensure each project delivers expected results
  • Align project funding proposals with strategic pillars and priorities
