2026 Conference – Session Three Speakers

Session 3 – From Innovation to Impact: Cleantech in Action

Showcasing technologies and solutions being developed and applied right here in Newfoundland and Labrador that are helping industries and communities become more sustainable.

Speakers:

Chad LaFitte – Presenter

Chad is a Professional Engineer with 13 years of experience in offshore, thermal, and low-carbon energy development. As Manager of Innovation & Opportunities at Angler Solutions, he leads a team of 12 to 15 engineers and computer scientists, and develops proposals for consulting and R&D projects. Recently, Chad led the development of an Offshore NL CCS research program that secured $3.3 million in funding from the GovNL CCUS Innovation Challenge and NRCan Energy Innovation Program.

In his role, Chad owns the technical strategy and development roadmap for MESO, Angler’s Model for Energy Systems Optimization platform, and oversees its use for consulting projects across the energy sector. He also supports Angler’s intellectual property development, funding applications, and SR&ED filings.

Before joining Angler, Chad held Senior Engineering roles at Cenovus and Husky Energy. At Cenovus, he evaluated and piloted emissions-reduction technologies for offshore, thermal, EOR, and carbon storage projects, and represented the company in Oil Sands Alliance and COSIA working groups. At Husky, he led reservoir engineering and reserves evaluation for the Bay du Nord offshore development and characterized gas storage reservoir behaviour at White Rose. As Qualified Reserves Evaluator, he was responsible for the analysis and booking of oil and gas reserves across several asset management units.

Maor Bezner – Presenter

Maor Bezner is Vice President, North America at ECOncrete, an environmental technology company founded by marine biologists to revolutionize marine infrastructure by harmonizing development and sustainability. Maor joined ECOncrete in 2018 as a Designer and has since served as Head of Product Development and Production, Head of Design, and Chief Technology Officer, prior to assuming his current role leading the company’s growth across North America. Over more than eight years with the company, he has contributed to key nature-based infrastructure projects, including the South Battery Park nature-based waterfront design in New York City and the Port of San Diego’s Living Shoreline projects. His work focuses on harmonizing environmental and technical requirements in marine construction and developing the technologies that enable ecologically enhanced infrastructure to be manufactured at scale.

Carl Brothers – Presenter

Carl Brothers, P.Eng., is a mechanical engineer who has been working in the Canadian Wind energy industry for more than 40 years. He is president and general manager of Frontier Power Systems, a Prince Edward Island company that specializes in wind energy.

Frontier works in the utility wind market, they recently completed a 30 MW wind project in PEI, but their specialty is building mid-size wind turbines and related technology, for deployment into isolated community markets.

In a project to revive a market for the smaller technology, Frontier has re-engineered a mid-size wind turbine platform that was utility grade 30 years ago. By embedding design parameters from modern turbine design, Frontier has produced a lighter, more productive turbine. Frontier now designs and builds these 100-kW wind turbines, BESS systems and micro-grid controllers.
Frontier is presently re-powering the Ramea Wind Plant. The first Ramea project, Canada’s first medium displacement wind-diesel project, was built in 2003 and operated for more than 20 years. It is being replaced by a larger system with 9 x 100-kW of wind capacity, a 1,000kW / 1,000 kWh battery energy storage system and a microgrid controller. The project is designed to displace nearly 50% of the diesel plant’s consumption and turned the diesel off for 2,500 hours per year. Frontier is hopeful this will be a model for future projects in isolated communities across Canada and around the world.

Renita Dominaux – Presenter

Renita Dominaux is President of EcoAxis, a Newfoundland and Labrador company delivering innovative access solutions and practical approaches to plastic waste diversion. Renita holds an MBA in Project Management, a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and is a certified Project Management Professional. With more than 20 years of experience in strategic planning, project management, and government relations, she leads EcoAxis’s strategy, governance and organizational growth.

Peter Clibbon – Panelist

Peter Clibbon has worked for 28 years in renewable energy, starting with construction of the first offshore windfarms in the UK in the late 90s.

Since 2005, he’s led the Canadian affiliate of RES, the world’s largest independent renewables company. Since then, RES has developed or constructed 18% of all Canadian wind projects. In Maritime Canada, RES is presently building over 400MW of new windpower.

Under Peter’s leadership, RES negotiated the industry’s first Impact Benefit Agreements with First Nations and Alberta’s first corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Peter and the RES team recognize the immense capacity of renewable energy to enrich and develop host communities, while delivering affordable carbon-free energy for everyone.
