Corner Brook Port Corporation

Corner Brook Port Corporation (“the Corporation” or “CBPC”) is a community based, community controlled organization that is responsible for operating the Port of Corner Brook on Newfoundland’s West coast. The mandate of the Corporation is two fold: to provide a high quality ocean transportation and distribution link to serve the needs of Western and Northern Newfoundland & Labrador, and economic development. The port is utilized by a range of vessels such as oil tankers, fishing vessels, ferries, coast guard ships, cruise ships and barges. The Corporation has three lines of business: Industrial Port Operations, Real Estate, and Cruise Tourism.

The port is located 35 km (22 miles) inland from the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Sheltered by the surrounding Blomidon Mountains, the port is very sheltered and experiences very few major wind or wave issues. Accessible year round, the waters of the Bay of Islands are extremely deep with a 90 metre (300 ft) channel to gulf depth and a minimum dockside water depth of 10 metres (30 ft).

Port infrastructure includes a large 362 metre (1200 ft) berth with a deck elevation of 4 metres (13.5 ft). The berth is capable of handling very large vessels and has accommodated large ships such as the Queen Mary 2 with no issues. The dock is equipped with a 53 tonne capacity fixed pedestal crane. There is a large fenced in yard adjacent to the dock measuring 28,000 square metres (over 300,000 square feet) which is suitable as a lay down area or for storage. A high-bay maintenance garage is located within the fenced storage area and is available for use. The Port of Corner Brook is a fully certified ISPS port and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) maintains an office nearby.

As the largest community in Western Newfoundland, Corner Brook has a regional hospital and emergency services just minutes away from the port in addition to numerous supply and service companies. The port is accessible via two exits from the Trans Canada Highway. The region is serviced by two airports: Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF) which is just 50 km (31 miles) from the port, and the Stephenville Airport (YJT) which is located 80 km (50 miles) from the port.
