NEWS RELEASE

Message from the CEO: Fall 2026

Good afternoon members and partners,

It’s been a busy fall so far! The econext team has been hard at work, implementing our new Strategic Plan, planning our annual conference, leading trade missions to Germany and Belgium, co-hosting wastewater workshops with MNL, and planning our fall training and professional development programming.

We also have many active projects, ranging from a focus on the circular economy, to marine transportation decarbonization, home energy efficiency, and capacity building initiatives, such as Green Roots and Climate Adaption and Resilience Training (CART), and many more.

Public policy and advocacy has also been an area of focus for us, including meetings with government officials, multiple submissions to the provincial and federal governments, and launching a new Public Policy & Advocacy web page that documents our activities in this area. One effort we’re particularly proud of is our advocacy related to the “One Project, One Review” approach that was recently adopted by our provincial and federal governments. econext was proud to host the announcement of the federal-provincial co-operation agreement on environmental and impact assessments, and we’d like to thank our members for their insights and input on this topic over the past several years.

I’d also like to share a personal update with you. My husband and I have adopted a baby girl, so I’ll be taking Adoption Leave starting on Monday, Oct. 19. While I’m out of the office, Kieran Hanley will serve as Acting CEO until I’m back in the office in January 2027.

As always, if you have questions or suggestions, please reach out to me or a member of the econext team. We’re happy to hear from you.

Best wishes for a productive, rewarding Fall,

Laura
