Yesterday, September 8, 2026, econext was pleased to host the announcement of the signing of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Cooperative Agreement on Environmental Impact Assessments.
econext’s CEO, Laura Barron, hosted the event, and welcomed representatives from both the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, including the Honourable Joanne Thompson, Member of Parliament and Minister of Fisheries, and the Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Social Supports and Well-Being, Minister of Housing, Minister of Poverty Reduction, and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities.
This agreement marks an important step toward greater coordination for projects that require both provincial environmental assessment and federal impact assessment — supporting the principle of “one project, one review.”
At econext, we applaud both governments for working together to advance a more coordinated and streamlined approach to environmental assessment in Newfoundland and Labrador.
