Scotia Recycling (NL)

Scotia Recycling (NL) Limited has been established to operate waste diversion, and recycling facilities. Scotia operates three processing facilities, 5 Green Depots, and two sub depots. Scotia Recycling is an affiliated company of Minas Basin Holdings Limited and CKF Inc; these companies are consumers of recycled fiber in their manufacturing processes. We are working with several non for profit organizations with their recycling and waste diversion initiatives.

We have contracts with the City of Corner Brook and the City of Mt. Pearl to receive, sort, process and market curbside recyclables. Scotia also services many national account type stores with balers and pick up service via its tractor-trailer units across the Province. Scotia has also placed balers and set up recycling programs for companies. These services allow the companies to meet internal environmental requirements. Scotia has become a recognized professional broker and exporter of quality secondary fiber and various plastic film grades. Our company offers a pickup service for Beverage Containers ( we charge a small fee against the beverage container refund back to the business) and our truck for recycling drive days for large social groups and schools.

Newco is a state of the art metal recycling company that has been providing full metal recycling for 30 years to the province. In addition to our experience recycling all types of metals, our industry contacts with other metal recyclers throughout the world ensure we stay on top of Canadian and International Standards. Proudly we support the local economy, most notably the trucking industry and local suppliers. Our processed recycled metals are shipped to mainland Canada and steel mills worldwide.

Newco Metal & Auto Recycling Ltd. has been partnering with communities in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1985. Beginning with those early years, Newco has developed longstanding relationships with Regional Authorities, Municipalities, and Businesses in the province, from Petty Harbour to Port aux Basque, from Burgeo to Labrador City, and everywhere in between. We support these relationships with a year-round operation that visits each region at least once in a cycle. We remove any accessible scrap metal at no charge.

As a locally owned and operated company, Newco takes great pride in its participation in the provincial economy. We employ over 50 Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans throughout the province, making industry and jobs from what was once waste.

Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB)

The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) is a Crown agency of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, reporting to the Minister of Environment and Conservation. It was established in 1996 to develop, implement and manage waste diversion and recycling programs on a province-wide basis for specific waste streams designated by the government.

Since 1996, MMSB has worked with various stakeholders throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to develop and implement recycling and waste diversion programs to ensure a clean and healthy environment throughout the province. These initiatives include the Used Beverage Container Recycling Program, Used Tire Management Program, Used Oil Recycling Program, Residential Backyard Composting Program and Public Education Programs.

MMSB is a self-financed Crown agency that does not receive any funding from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Its revenues are derived from levies applied on various waste streams as authorized and prescribed under provincial legislation (presently beverage containers and tires), as well as from the sale of recyclable materials it collects under its various programs.

Ever Green Recycling

Our mandate.
Ever Green Recycling is a non-profit organization that provides meaningful and sustainable employment for individuals recovering from mental illness.

How we started.
In 1993, Ever Green Recycling started as a workshop program for mental health employees where they learned how to recycle aluminum cans, paper, and cardboard. But like anything green, we’ve grown. Today, Ever Green Recycling is a leading recycling and environmental business with four recycling depots and a fibre recycling facility.

We are a Business Enterprise.
Ever Green Environmental Corporation is an independent business enterprise focused on advancing environmental practices, products and services for residences, businesses and the community.

We are a Registered Charity.
True to our roots, Ever Green remains dedicated to supporting mental health programs and advancing mental health employees in integrated workplaces. Our mandate is to help individuals recovering from serious mental illness find and maintain meaningful employment.

We’re proud of what we do.
Despite the high unemployment rate for persons with moderate to severe mental illness (between 75-90%), some 40 employees have maintained and extended their employment for over 4 years. As a result of employment, employees self-decide to severely reduce Social Assistance Dependency.

Awards and Community Recognition
Our Organization’s contributions to environmentalism and employment have been recognized as providing leadership in the communities we serve. In 2011, Ever Green Recycling was awarded the unique “Path of Distinction” Award by the Newfoundland & Labrador Employers’ Council. In 2010, Ever Green Recycling was recognized for “Most Hirings” under the Partners In Workplace Inclusion Program.

Our human resources leadership has led to us working with community organizations such as, Stella Burry Community Services, MacMorran Community Centre, Partners for Workplace Inclusion and the Autism Society of Newfoundland & Labrador, to develop employment opportunities for individuals from their training programs.

Ever Green Recycling has been profiled in the Canadian Social Enterprises Guide. In addition, Memorial University’s Health Research Unit and its Anti-Poverty Committee are studying our success with the hopes of finding health and welfare cost savings for the province.
