econext is seeking a Marketing and Communications Lead to join its team at 235 Water Street in St. John’s, NL.

Job Description

econext’s Marketing and Communications Lead is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the organization’s profile and engagement through various communication channels.

Specific responsibilities include:

Communications

  • Develop communications plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives
  • Develop messaging and materials for multiple platforms
  • Media relations

Content Development

  • Collaborate with internal teams to collect content for stories and announcements
  • Lead the creation of marketing assets to support initiatives and events
  • Write and edit content for organizational channels and materials, including the website, newsletters, news releases, etc.
  • Produce newsletters showcasing member achievements, sector news, and upcoming econext programs and activities
  • Coordinate with external vendors to develop marketing communications content

Social Media and Digital Presence

  • Plan and execute a comprehensive social media strategy across all platforms
  • Create and post original multimedia content, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Draft and schedule platform-specific copy tailored to target audiences

Design and Branding

  • Develop brand standards
  • Develop visually appealing promotional materials and graphics
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels and materials

Event Marketing

  • Coordinate promotional efforts for events, including pre-event planning and onsite communications
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and vendors to amplify events

Tracking and Reporting

  • Monitor and report on key marketing and communications performance indicators, including audience engagement, subscription growth, and campaign effectiveness
  • Use analytics tools to evaluate the success of initiatives and recommend improvements based on data

Additional Duties

  • Contribute to other organizational initiatives as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Business, Marketing or Public Relations) or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience working in marketing and/or communications in a professional setting
  • Solid understanding of social media channels and tools from a business perspective
  • Experience with social media scheduling tools (e.g., HeyOrca, Hootsuite)
  • Ability to work independently and to take the initiative to self-start projects
  • Creative approach to work with a willingness to try new approaches
  • Proven communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Experience with web content management systems (CMS)
  • Basic to intermediate skills in graphic design applications (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) would be considered an asset
  • Experience with photography/video editing would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e., Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro) would be considered an asset
  • Skills and/or experience in newsletter creation and audience management (e.g., Mailchimp) would be considered an asset

Job Description

The Workforce Events Lead position is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to support clean growth in Newfoundland and Labrador and play a key role in helping to shape its future green economy. This position will be a critical operational support for the effective execution of econext initiatives relating to workforce development and innovation in both clean energy and ocean technology.

The Workforce Events Lead will:

▪ Plan and coordinate workforce and career development events, such as connector events, Ideathons, industry panels, training sessions, industry forums, networking sessions, career fairs,and community outreach activities
▪ Collaborate with stakeholders, including employers, educational institutions, and community organizations, to ensure event success.
▪ Manage event logistics, including scheduling, venue arrangements, and stakeholder communications.
▪ Lead end-to-end planning, coordination, and logistics for all workforce events, including scheduling, venue booking, catering, registrations, and onsite coordination.
▪  Manage event timelines, budgets, materials, vendors, and volunteer/staff assignments.
▪  Coordinate with partners, speakers, and exhibitors to ensure seamless event experiences.
▪  Develop and execute promotional plans for events, including drafting copy for invitations, social media, and other outreach.
▪  Maintain post-event follow-up processes, including reporting, participant feedback, and data entry.
▪  Support the coordination of workforce-related projects that connect with events.
▪  Maintain and update the econav website with event information, photos, and related content.

For this role, econext is looking for an individual with a vibrant and outgoing personality and a willingness to be proactive and self-directed in their work.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in event planning and coordination, and a diverse range of skills and proficiencies that can be applied to different aspects of the projects and initiatives which they will be involved in.

The individual must be an effective communicator to establish, maintain, and foster new relationships. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and has the capacity to think creatively to address challenges and pursue opportunities as they arise.

▪ A university degree or college diploma
▪ 3 – 5 years of experience in event planning and coordination, ideally in workforce development, community engagement, or a related field
▪ Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
▪ Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills
▪ Excellent project management and event coordination abilities
▪ Strong interpersonal communications skills to work with diverse stakeholders.
▪ Proficiency in event management tools, including virtual events platforms
▪ Relationship and network-building skills
▪ Ability to manage multiple events and deadlines simultaneously.

In 2025, econext partnered with the City of St. John’s to launch an exciting new residential energy efficiency advisory program, supporting homeowners navigate energy efficient projects for their homes, and the Home Energy Navigator will play a crucial role in this mission.

Location: St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

Type: part-time, 2-year contract starting August 2025 [possibility of increased hours & contract extension based on Shift program needs]

Part-time: 20-25 hrs/week, hybrid // $25/hr

Availability: combination of daytime, evenings & Saturdays – hours may vary

What You Will Be Doing

The Home Energy Navigator will have the following responsibilities:

– Providing customer service by managing phone calls, responding to emails, handling inquiries and generally supporting homeowners through an energy efficiency renovation process.

– Reporting to the Manager of Home Energy Navigators — discuss and refine the homeowner contact process to continuously find the best approach to each case.

– Be able to work as a team in achieving specified program outcomes – ensure homeowners are moving along a designated workflow.

In 2025, econext partnered with the City of St. John’s to establish a residential energy efficiency advisory/resource program with the following objectives:

  • Support homeowners in navigating the complexities of undertaking energy efficiency projects for their homes, including:
  • Supporting homeowners in obtaining a home energy audit by an NRCan registered service organization.
  • Supporting homeowners in identifying and understanding potential upgrades to address the energy efficiency items identified within the energy audit.
  • Supporting homeowners in identifying financial options for implementing home upgrades (i.e., grant funding, loans and other financing mechanisms, independent financial advisor, etc.)
  • Staying in contact with homeowners throughout the renovations/project implementation and ensuring a post-project home energy audit is provided.
  • Support capacity development in the construction sector around net zero construction details and energy efficiency retrofits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting homeowners to engage with an Energy Auditor who will provide personalized recommendations for energy-saving upgrades, such as insulation, appliances, and renewable energy solutions.
  • Educate homeowners on available grants, incentives, and financing options for energy-efficient projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between homeowners and project partners, helping to ensure a smooth project execution.
  • Track and report homeowners’ movement through program and project outcomes to the Manager of Home Energy Navigators for continuous program improvement.

Qualifications

  • Be able to lead through a lens of empathy, kindness and compassion to guide homeowners through their understanding of the project and assist them with their concerns and needs.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills including patience, active listening and a genuine desire to help others achieve their goals;
  • You excel at developing strong and trusting interpersonal skills.
  • An interest in environmental sustainability and energy-efficient technologies is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills to collect data from each homeowner and create & maintain documentation of your work processes – with a goal of streamlining the workflow as much as possible.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and adaptability amidst an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse clients.
  • Experience in home energy efficiency, construction, or relevant fields is a plus but not required, training will be provided.
