Newco is a state of the art metal recycling company that has been providing full metal recycling for 30 years to the province. In addition to our experience recycling all types of metals, our industry contacts with other metal recyclers throughout the world ensure we stay on top of Canadian and International Standards. We are also a fully COR Certified company under the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association. Proudly we support the local economy, most notably the trucking industry and local suppliers. Our processed recycled metals are shipped to mainland Canada and steel mills worldwide.

Newco Metal & Auto Recycling Ltd. has been partnering with communities in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1985. Beginning with those early years, Newco has developed longstanding relationships with Regional Authorities, Municipalities, and Businesses in the province, from Petty Harbour to Port aux Basque, from Burgeo to Labrador City, and everywhere in between. We support these relationships with a year-round operation that visits each region at least once in a cycle. We remove any accessible scrap metal at no charge.

New World Dairy Inc.

New World Dairy Inc. is one of the largest commercial dairy farms in Canada. Recognizing the necessity for all farms to manage its environmental impact, NWD has installed a state of the art waste treatment system in the form of an anaerobic digester facility.

The Anaerobic Facility effectively manages all on farm waste by:

  • Recovering and recycling solid waste and converting it into reusable bedding;
  • Eliminating virtually all harmful organisms from waste materials that are spread on crop land;
  • Converting organic nutrients into inorganic nutrients – a process which greatly enhances the ability of plant life to utilize available nutrients when applied to crop land; and
  • Producing green energy by capturing the methane produced and burning it in our bio gas generator facility, producing 70% more energy than we consume.

Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is the people’s Crown utility – providing safe, cost-effective, reliable electricity that our customers can count on.

We have both regulated and unregulated operations across the province with major power generation assets in Churchill Falls, Muskrat Falls, Bay d’Espoir and Holyrood.

Our provincial transmission system spans thousands of kilometers, and includes dozens of high-voltage terminal stations and lower-voltage distribution stations. Through the 1,100 km Labrador Island Link, the two 250 km Labrador Transmission Assets between Muskrat Falls and Churchill Falls, and the Soldier’s Pond power converter station, we are connecting power from Labrador to the island.

We power our families, friends, and neighbours in 200+ communities across the province, and approximately 80 per cent of our provincial energy comes from clean hydroelectric generation.

Developed in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada with the goal of helping the world save energy, the Mysa Smart Thermostat has found a home in thousands of North American households throughout 2018. Mysa has become the market leader for smart electric heat management, allowing homeowners to cut their own bills by up to 26% while offering more control and precision than traditional dial or programmable thermostats. While smart thermostats have been on the market for years, none were compatible with electric heaters – the source of heat for a sizeable number of households in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Supported by investors from across Canada, Mysa has become one of the fastest growing, highly touted local technology companies in the province since its 2016 inception. At over 30 employees (and growing), the transition from tiny startup to established international brand has been a whirlwind for the eco-conscious founders, brothers Josh and Zach Green.

Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB)

The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) is a Crown agency of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, reporting to the Minister of Environment and Conservation. It was established in 1996 to develop, implement and manage waste diversion and recycling programs on a province-wide basis for specific waste streams designated by the government.

Since 1996, MMSB has worked with various stakeholders throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to develop and implement recycling and waste diversion programs to ensure a clean and healthy environment throughout the province. These initiatives include the Used Beverage Container Recycling Program, Used Tire Management Program, Used Oil Recycling Program, Residential Backyard Composting Program and Public Education Programs.

MMSB is a self-financed Crown agency that does not receive any funding from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Its revenues are derived from levies applied on various waste streams as authorized and prescribed under provincial legislation (presently beverage containers and tires), as well as from the sale of recyclable materials it collects under its various programs.

Modern Soil Treatment Ltd.

Modern Soil Treatment Ltd. is a locally owned and operated soil treatment facility servicing the Avalon Peninsula and surrounding areas.

Modern Soil Treatment Ltd. is licensed to accept and treat Hydrocarbon contaminated soils.

Through our parent company, Modern Paving Limited, we are able to offer our customer’s products like blast rock, road gravels, as well as services such as concrete reinstatement and asphalt paving, to rehabilitate and reconcile contaminated sites.

Miawpukek First Nation

The Miawpukek First Nation is a First Nation reserve located on the south coast of the island of Newfoundland. The Lands and Environment Division falls under the Capital, Lands and Housing Department. The division is responsible for land use planning and management and developing and implementing policies, programs, and projects for environmental protection and enhancement.
