Marine Institute graduates have a technology diploma in Marine Environmental Technology. Graduates from this program have generalist training in the environmental field. Upon graduation, the students will be familiar with underlying scientific principles of environmental process and operations, as well as the policy and legal framework of environmental regulations.

GovNL – Department of Industry, Energy, and Technology
The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology (IET) is the lead for innovation, economic development and diversification in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The department focuses on creating a competitive environment to support private sector investment and business growth; and supporting industries in Newfoundland and Labrador such as mining, energy and technology. Working closely with key stakeholders, the department also develops and monitors supporting regulatory and benefits activities.
GovNL – Department of Environment and Climate Change
The Department of Environment and Climate Change supports the environmental sustainability of municipalities, communities and regions. It is responsible for environmental protection and enhancement through implementing water resource and pollution prevention regulations and policies, as well as coordinating environmental impact assessments of proposed development projects and managing impacted sites.
The Department also supports facilitation of the settlement of collective agreements, providing dispute resolution services, appointing arbitrators, and providing workplace training. In addition, the Department ensures compliance with minimum terms and conditions of employment.

College of the North Atlantic – Corner Brook Campus
The Environmental Technology (Co-op) program, offered at the Corner Brook campus of the College of the North Atlantic, consists of five academic semesters, two six intercessions and two paid work terms. Work term students find placements within the province, nationally and internationally. Students in the Environmental Technology (Co-op) program receive multi-disciplinary training in engineering, environmental science, law, ethics and life sciences. Upon completion of this three-year program, students are eligible for transfer to UCCB to continue their studies towards a Bachelor of Technology degree.
The Corner Brook campus has undertaken a workforce development program wherein contract training can be delivered to industry to meet its immediate needs. The College also offers training in the areas of WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Small Boat Safety, Power Line Hazards, Indoor Air Quality and Environmental Site Assessments.
City of St. John’s
The City of St. John’s is a thriving Canadian city with an area population of almost 170,000 people. The City is the capital of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and is governed by a City Council under the authority of the Provincial Urban and Rural Planning Act. The various departments involved in promoting economic growth and development are Economic Development and Tourism, Building and Property Management, and Engineering and Planning. The Environmental Initiatives Division falls under the auspices of the Engineering Department. The Division is responsible for providing guidance on environmental issues and for developing and implementing programs and projects that encourage environmental protection and enhancement.
