econext seeking member input on development of Canadian offshore renewable energy regulations

Natural Resources Canada has drafted a technical requirements paper to detail to government, stakeholder and Indigenous participants the proposed requirements that will form the basis of future regulations for offshore renewable energy projects. The paper can be downloaded here. The requirements are divided into the following parts:

  • General Requirements
  • Site Assessment Activities Requirements
  • Transportation, Construction, Installation and Commissioning Activities Requirements
  • Operations and Maintenance Activities Requirements
  • Decommissioning, Repowering, and/or Life Extension Activities Requirements

NRCan is seeking feedback on these proposed requirements to ensure future regulations follow the highest standards, are comprehensive and enforceable, and are flexible enough to respond to a rapidly changing sector.

Ai in Oil and Gas – An Overview

Sponsored by techNL and Noia, the Digital Oil and Gas Initiative (DOI) is launching a Digital Awareness Campaign that will aim to build awareness, educate, and increase knowledge of role of Artificial Intelligence (Ai) in the offshore oil and gas industry.

The first of three webinars is happening on Wednesday February 9th at 1:00 NST: Ai in Oil and Gas – An Overview

The Oil and Gas industry is typically cast as a slow adopter of innovation, particularly innovations that originate from outside the industry. One technology that bucks that narrative is artificial intelligence and machine learning. Oil and gas is rapidly exploiting this class of technologies at pace with other industries. This presentation will provide an overview of the world of AI and ML, key definitions, the use cases in oil and gas, and the adoption challenges.

Presented by Geoffrey Cann, an author, educator, and professional speaker. His passion is the Oil and Gas industry, essential to our modern industrial society, and its imperative to exploit digital innovations as we slowly transition to new fuels.

Registration is available here.

This webinar campaign will be available to both energy and tech professionals interested in learning more about Ai in Oil and Gas.

Atlantic Canada’s Green Potential: Jobs and Skills Toward Clean Growth

Across the globe, the green transition and decarbonization of economic activity are accelerating. Canada is working to keep pace, evidenced by ambitious targets and collaborative initiatives across the federal, regional and municipal governments, businesses and communities. This webinar will present the findings from our research to identify the green job potential in Atlantic Canada.

Begins: February 4, 2022
Registration Deadline: February 4, 2022

Across the globe, the decarbonization of economic activities is accelerating. Canada is working to keep pace, evidenced by ambitious targets and collaborative initiatives across the federal, regional and municipal governments, businesses and communities.

The transition to a green economy will affect every industry and many jobs. However, there is limited understanding and awareness of how this green shift will impact Atlantic Canadian businesses and workers. The unique makeup of the region’s economy, workforce, and clean growth opportunities further complicate this challenge. Adopting sustainable practices and clean innovation in the ocean-based or blue economy drive jobs and skills in that sector. Without a good grasp of what a green or ‘sustainable blue’ job means in the Atlantic Canadian context, the region is in danger of missing significant opportunities to access programming, resources, and investment.

In partnership with econext and the Maritimes Energy Association (MEA), ECO Canada investigated the green job potential in Atlantic Canada. We consulted over 50 organizations representing employers, governments, economic development groups and academia to identify:

  • trends and perspectives on greening,
  • critical and emerging green jobs and skills within key sectors in the region, including natural resources, marine, alternative energy, manufacturing, waste management, and other green services and technologies—e., climate change and adaptation, green building, cleantech, bioeconomy, and water and wastewater management, and
  • workforce initiatives that could benefit the entire region.

Join us on February 4, 2022, at 12:00 AST | 12:30 NST to learn about our findings first-hand through a 60-minute webinar. This presentation will benefit current workers, job seekers, employers, governments, and academia.

Space is limited; register now to book your spot!
