Request for Expressions of Interest: Infographic Design

The objective of this Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) is for econext to assess capabilities and interest from firms in the provision of graphic design services to create a series of infographics that demonstrate climate change / clean growth concepts in Newfoundland and Labrador.

These infographics will be used to educate stakeholders and inspire action towards mitigating the effects of climate change and growing the green economy.

econext is asking interested parties to consider the following factors with respect to one infographic in their response to this EOI:

  • Firms will be provided with all information required for the infographic;
  • Firms will be relied upon to provide guidance on how information should be presented in an infographic based on best practices and the target audience;
  • Infographics should be designed to be 8.5 x 11 in size (plus bleeding and crop markings) as to allow for printing;
  • Infographics should be delivered in PDF format (vector-based); and
  • Firms will provide the source design files for the infographic created.

econext will draw from the pool of designers submitting responses to this EOI for future work.

Reponses to this EOI should include the following information:

  • Cost per infographic designed and delivered;
  • Estimate of timeline associated with infographic delivery, assuming you have been provided with all required information; and
  • Examples of relevant design work.

The electronic copy of your submissions should be in a single PDF document and sent to Kieran Hanley at kieran@econext.ca. Questions from interested respondents can be sent to the same address. The deadline for EOI responses is March 22, 2023.

econext and the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) have partnered with the Ocean Startup Project to design and promote three challenges for its 2022 Ocean Startup Challenge.

The Ocean Startup Challenge helps turn entrepreneurial ideas or technology into a wave of opportunity! For 2022, the Ocean Startup Challenge is focusing on idea/early stage ocean startups with a TRL of 4 and below, and supporting innovators who are leveraging Canadian ocean assets and capabilities to develop technologies that can be applied to global ocean problems.

Winning teams will receive up to $40,000 in awards, with invaluable business development supports with programming, mentorship, one-on-one sessions with our Executives-in-Residence and industry experts, networking opportunities and more, as part of the program, which runs until March 2023.

Challenge:

Develop a technology and/or process that allows for finding value in or alternative disposal methods for plastic wastes associated with aquaculture operations.

Aquaculture is among the fastest-growing food sectors in the world, accounting for more than 50 per cent of the world’s total seafood production. Increased production also impacts the volume of plastics to be recycled or responsibly disposed of, from harvesting and production processes. Plastic waste is the biggest waste challenge in the aquaculture sector, particularly feedbags. Lack of recycling capacity in rural areas, as well as Tipping fees and transportation costs are considerations, with landfill operators also keen to find alternative solutions. Beyond feedbags, other plastic wastes have to be managed by the sector. Industry reports significant volumes of mixed plastics stockpiled comprising of floats, rope, old cage netting etc.

Challenge:

Develop a technology and/or process that allows ports to maximize the role that they can play in electricity supply and demand management to the benefit of electricity grids.

Ports in Canada will play an important role in the pursuit of net zero. Through the use and provision of electrification and/or clean fuels, their infrastructure will be key in decarbonizing marine transportation and industry and economic activity that relies on marine transportation. Some ports will become hubs for the export of hydrogen or other clean fuels. With ports prospectively featuring substantive energy storage infrastructure, it is possible for them to play an important role in helping to levelize and manage grid electricity demand.

Challenge:

Develop a more reliable and lower-cost technology and/or process to monitor and manage the subsea assets of clean energy infrastructure that will withstand the challenges presented by the North Atlantic (e.g., icebergs, geology, weather conditions).

Subsea clean energy infrastructure is being installed in a wide variety of different jurisdictions and applications around the world. This includes the subsea electricity cables associated with the transmission of electricity, along with the more traditional subsea infrastructure like moorings, foundations, etc. that are required for offshore energy developments. The prospect of offshore wind development, the electrification of offshore facilities, increased electricity transmission between jurisdictions, and in situ marine vessel charging is likely to require increased subsea clean energy infrastructure on an international scale – including Canada. Ensuring maximum reliability at a low cost through digitalization and remote operations will become increasingly important and contribute to emissions reductions.

Grow your business through the Canadian digital adoption program

The way Canadians do business has changed. Companies, employees and customers are doing more and more business online, which is why the Government of Canada is committed to helping businesses adopt new digital technologies to stay competitive and meet their customers’ needs.

In Budget 2021, the Government of Canada announced the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) to support Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). CDAP will help SMEs boost their e-commerce presence and digitize how they run their businesses behind the scenes. The program provides funding and expertise to businesses, as well as training and work opportunities for young Canadians.

Businesses will be able to apply for two different kinds of support:

  • Stream 1: Grow Your Business Online, will help SMEs take advantage of e-commerce opportunities
  • Stream 2: Boost Your Business Technology, will help businesses with the development and implementation of digital adoption strategies

Request for EOIs: Training & Professional Development Partnership with econext

In September 2021 econext launched its online professional development and training portal econext On-Demand (https://neia.myvirtualcampus.co/). econext On-Demand presents new opportunities for the provision of training and professional development for businesses, their employees, and environmental practitioners throughout econext’s broad provincial network.

econext is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from members interested in partnering with the association in the delivery of online training and professional development opportunities via the new On-Demand portal.

econext is interested in exploring training and professional development partnerships that fall into one of the following categories:

  • Helping business owners of all kinds improve their environmental sustainability and performance in the Newfoundland and Labrador context
  • Helping environmental professionals (both in the office and in the field) in industry improve and build on their competencies with new skills, ideas, and experiences
  • Helping industry professionals in non-environmental roles increase their capacity to view their work through an environmental lens
  • Introducing businesses and professionals to environmental sector competencies that can be more fully explored through further education and certification in subsequent instruction (independent of econext)

Proposed training and professional development opportunities can take the form of static presentations, real-time seminars, and/or sequential modular instruction. econext On-Demand has the capability to include interactive elements to evaluate and confirm learning (e.g., quizzes, embedded media). econext is open to considering hybrid programming, where portions of the training take place online in combination with practical or field-based instruction.

Responses

Responses to this Request for Expressions of Interest should include:

  • A description of the training or professional development proposed
  • A proposed revenue-sharing model for the delivery of the training or professional development with and through econext

econext can provide technical support, if required, to digitalize course content and record instruction on a cost-recovery basis.

EOIs responses should be in DOC and/or PDF format, and sent to Kieran Hanley, econext’s Executive Director, via email at kieran@econext.ca no later than January 21, 2022. Submissions should be succinct and not exceed three (3) pages. Questions from interested parties can be directed to the same address.
