WEBINAR: Building an Intellectual Property Portfolio for CleanTech Companies

CleanTech is a growing industry with companies developing novel technologies and generating new intellectual property (IP). Safeguarding IP is critical to protect the investment that companies are making in R&D and emerging technology.

Join econext, Springboard Atlantic and IP-MEX Inc. to learn strategies for building a strong IP portfolio in CleanTech. Ray Novokowsky, former President and CEO of EcoVu, a clean/green tech company which previously specialized in the analysis and purification of water, will reveal the benefits that a strong IP portfolio brought to his business.

Learn how to increase your freedom-to-operate, and minimize the chances of patent infringement, while taking advantage of the incentives offered by various Patent Offices for sustainable technologies. Real life examples of successful IP programs will be presented.

Presenters:

Dr. Daisy Williams is an IP Lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), and a Registered Patent and Trademark Agent with the College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents (CPATA). Daisy holds a Ph.D. in Physics (Photonics), and has over a decade of experience working with technology companies.

Dr. Victoria Donnelly is a founder of IP-MEX Inc. and a registered Patent Agent in Canada and the US. She holds a Ph.D. in Math & Physics (Computational Physics), M.Sc. in Optics, and B.Eng. Victoria has over 25 years of IP experience in-house and in private practice, and has personally filed over 300 patent applications in various technology areas. Victoria also has 10 years of academic research experience as a University Professor.

Mr. Ray Novokowsky is the former President and CEO of EcoVu, a clean/green tech company which previously specialized in the analysis and purification of water.

About IP-MEX:

IP-MEX Inc. is an Intellectual Property firm in Ottawa that specializes in building strong IP portfolios for high tech companies and start-ups. Their team includes IP lawyers, registered patent and trademark agents, and patent engineers with advanced degrees in science and engineering – with decades of experience in the high tech industry.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM portion of the meeting will take place at 2:00 and will feature a 2023-24 Year in Review, a look ahead to 2024-25, and an opportunity for members to ask questions and engage in discussion. Voting matters will occur online as to allow for maximum participation from members across the province, and will take place between April 25-30. For members interested in Board of Directors nominations, click here. This portion of the event is for members only.

WEBINAR: Clean fuels and economic development in Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador is on the frontier of clean fuels development and production on a global scale. There are several projects being explored within the province that would be internationally significant in terms of their contribution in the fight against climate change.

These types of projects not only allow for Newfoundland and Labrador to make an important contribution to the world’s pursuit of net zero, but also create good jobs, business opportunities, and community investment here at home.

Please join ACAP Humber Arm for its next Coastal Matter’s Speaker’s Series where we will learn more about the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Green Transition Fund.

This Coastal Matter’s session will take place 12noon – 1:30pm, Friday, March 1st in the Boardroom, 2nd Floor of RA Pollett Building, 61 Riverside Drive, Corner Brook. The Green Transition Fund
The Green Transition Fund provides financial support to businesses, organizations, post-secondary institutions, and industry associations to assist with the province’s transition to a green economy. The program will de-risk commercial and non-commercial activities that facilitate collaboration, investment, and industry growth required for the transition.
The Green Transition Fund targets the greening of commercial operations in traditional sectors and development of new opportunities related to the growth of a green economy. The program supports research and development projects related to green transition and green economy supply chain improvement. The program includes streams for projects led by Indigenous and rural proponents that are focused on a green economic transition.

Participants gain insights into different types of allies and acquire practical strategies for acting in allyship with groups and communities that experience discrimination and exclusion, both socially and economically. Real-life case studies are used to facilitate these learnings and key takeaways are shared for immediate implementation.
