Training Course: ESG Strategies and Tactics for SMEs

*This event has been rescheduled. Revised event details will be posted when available.

Having an ESG strategy will be increasingly important for SMEs who want to keep pace with their international competition.

ESG can be used to maintain and build competitive advantages. But what is ESG? Why is ESG important? How do organizations implement ESG strategies and benefit from having one?

These questions and more are what will be answered in this interactive and practical full-day session. The session will focus on ESG (environmental, social, governance) and its relevance to your business – exploring tactics and current trends.

In this session, we will also explore how ESG models can be used as an approach to address challenges and opportunities in the environmental sector, especially for Small to Medium Sized Enterprises.

Given the external socio-economic environment, what are the different models surrounding ESG that environmental industry firms can embrace to maximize benefits and minimize downside risks?

What do SMEs have to do to get ready for ESG reporting?

Particularly relevant for SMEs is the adoption of ESG at the top of supply chains. If large industry operators or retailers have made various ESG commitments, they will surely apply these downwards throughout the supply chain.

SMEs need to be prepared to ensure they don’t become less competitive. What does this mean and how do organizations implement ESG strategies?

Help get answers to these questions in this highly interactive session with a subject matter expert.

Simply Wedding NL

Simply Wedding NL is an early-stage social enterprise that provides eco-friendly and affordable wedding decoration services to Newfoundland and Labrador couples. Simply Wedding NL aims to tackle two main problems in the bridal community: (i) waste and (ii) rising wedding costs.

The average wedding cost in Canada has risen to $30,000, an increase of 30% from 2022. Wedding ceremonies and receptions unfortunately create a tremendous amount of trash. With over 145 000 weddings happening per year in Canada, and each producing nearly 400 pounds of waste, over 68 million pounds of wedding-related waste is sent to landfills across our country.

Simply Wedding NL’s next green project envisions the creation of a “Newfoundland and Labrador Bridal Wedding Decoration Inventory Hub” where local couples can rent refurbished decorations and reception items at an affordable price, and newlyweds can donate their used decorations.

Hanley says that the production of clean fuels like hydrogen will not only have an important impact on the province’s economy, but also make a meaningful contribution in the global fight against climate change.

“In our travels to places like Germany and the Netherlands, it continues to be clear that Europe needs clean fuels from jurisdictions like Newfoundland and Labrador to both decarbonize and increase their energy security.”
